A note for prospective percussion students and their parents:

The Seacoast Academy of Music after school percussion lessons offered at CMS will focus on fundamentals and techniques that will be utilized in the school’s band and music program. Percussion encompasses so many different instruments and techniques, that our goal with the lessons is to give students the basics for success in the school music program.

Our studies will start on, and continue to focus on, the snare drum. The techniques and ideas we will learn on the snare drum can be used, and related to, a large variety of other percussion instruments. In addition to our studies on the snare drum, students will be exposed to keyboard, or “mallet,” percussion along with reading pitched notation. We will also cover the smaller accessory instruments that the students will find themselves playing in the school’s ensembles.

Due to the diverse nature of percussion instruments and techniques, it is highly recommended that students interested in percussion studies enroll in a private lesson option. This allows for individual attention at the most crucial beginning stages where the basic building blocks for technique and growth are developed. The private lesson option also allows us to explore the many different instruments that the students will be required to play in ensembles. In this format, we will also be able to maximize our time together in the most productive way possible.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or if you would like to discuss lesson format options further.
