Our Programs and Classes - Summer 2008

Private Lessons

"There are many life skills that can be developed through music study, such as patience, commitment, perseverance, logical thinking, goal setting and time-management." *Individual music instruction is an important format for these developments. Our teachers at SAM are committed to sharing their knowledge and love of music by guiding each student through the essential skills required to play a musical instrument. That, combined with a commitment from our students and families to a consistent and disciplined practice schedule, is the formula for a successful and enjoyable learning experience.

SAM offers private music lessons to students of all ages and abilities in:
Piano with Adrienne Starrs, Nate Wilson, Christine Petrucci
Voice with Amanda McLaughlin
Guitar with Adam Terrell
Violin with Yolanda Becker
Flute with Jean Antrim
(Instruments not listed may be added if there is sufficient interest).

SAM Private Lesson Program consists of:

  • Six 30-minute lessons OR...
  • Four 45-minute lessons OR...
  • Three 60-minute lessons...
  • ...within an 8-week period (June 23 to August 13)

*Additional lessons may be negotiated based upon the availability of individual instructors.

FEE: $180 plus $10 non-refundable registration fee (waived for currently enrolled SAM students)

 

Adult "Fun-sembles"

Here is an opportunity to get together with like-minded musicians/vocalists!
Tuesday evenings, 5:30, 7:30, 6/24 to 8/5.

Bring some music you'd like to play/sing. Duets? Trios? Solos with accompaniment? Come for one or come for all. PLEASE CALL AHEAD TO RESERVE TIME. The fun will conclude with an optional concert/pot-luck party on August 5 at 6:30 pm.
Accompanist and Fun-semble coach: Christine Petrucci.

FEE: $15 per session

 

Musical Theater Singing Workshop

This workshop is for high school students. Entering and graduating students will be accepted.
Each student will learn at least one song to be performed at the end-of-week cabaret, with solo opportunities.

Students will learn and practice the basics of musical theater singing techniques, acting techniques, stage presence, professional etiquette, and steps in developing a character for songs.

Directed by Amanda McLaughlin, this workshop will be limited to 12 students, accepted by audition only. Class will meet from 8:30 - 11:30 am, Monday through Friday, 7/28 - 8/1, culminating in a performance Friday evening, 8/1, at 7:00 pm.

FEE: $235 ($210 for currently enrolled SAM students)

 

Jazz & Improvisation Workshop

This workshop, for students 12 - 18, will explore some of the basic concepts of jazz improvisation, and will give students an opportunity to apply those concepts in a live ensemble setting. Some of the subjects that will be covered in this course will include scale theory, the blues, basic jazz harmony, comping and ensemble playing. Students must be able to play their instrument of choice at or beyond a grade 3 level.

Directed by Nate Wilson, this class will meet from 9:30 - 11:30 am, Monday 8/4 through Friday, 8/8, with a performance on Friday, 8/8, at 10:30 am.

FEE: $175 ($150 for currently enrolled SAM students)

 

SAM POLICIES & PROCEDURES-Summer 2008

Mission:  The mission of the Seacoast Academy of Music is to provide the best music instruction available for all who desire to learn, regardless of their musical or financial abilities. We shall function as an integral component of our community’s cultural fabric through the education, participation, appreciation and performance of music.
Registration:  Registration will be considered complete upon completion of the appropriate application process and payment of full tuition and any other fees that apply. 
Payment:  Payment by cash or check may be dropped off at the School; payment by check may be mailed. Credit Cards not accepted.
Refunds/WithdrawalsSAM always seeks to make an appropriate match between instructor and student. No refunds for Summer programs.
Cancellation policy:  Cancellation of classes will be announced via 1) WMUR: TV channel 9 or www.wmur.com.; 2) by calling SAM at (603)964-3360; or 3) by logging on to our website, www.seacoastacademyofmusic.org.
